Homecoming game tonight in Blair.
Alot of my memories are accompanied by smells. My smeller must be overactive!
And homecoming smells like caramel apples.
Kuemper High School, Carroll, Iowa, 1978-ish.
I was a cheerleader and Homecoming was the best week of the year!
We made FULL-SIZE floats! We worked on them each evening from Monday to Thursday. ALOT of class bonding happened that week. And it was good.
Freshman year, our class WON! The theme was "Raisin Up a Victory" and I made the Raisin Box lettering. The whole class walked behind the float dressed in garbage sacks. We were the original raisins!!!
Big Pep Assembly at School, where the king and queen were picked.
After the afternoon parade, we all got caramel apples from Pokey’s, the local hamburger joint. (The food there reminds me a little bit of a Runza Small Hamburger….)
Game that night and I would cheer my BRAINS out, willing those friends of mine to make a touchdown, and THEN the dance!
I remember wearing the latest outfit….wool plaid skirt, a blazer, and blouse with a BOW.
Fun, fun memories.
My son does not want to go to the Homecoming Dance.
I’m so sad for him.
