I tried homemade pizza again tonight. I’ve tried a few times, and we also had it on Christmas Day…..but it wasn’t perfect.
I came close tonight. So close, in fact, that in my joyful eating, I forgot to take a picture!

I used special flour from King Arthur, and their recipe. I made the dough in my mixer with the dough hook and it works great. I let it go for about 5 minutes….
This is what made it so good…
Roasted Garlic!
I roasted a head of garlic with a little olive oil and salt. Wrap it in foil and roast for about an hour.
I also made some onions…sauteed until they are dark and sweet.
And I browned some hamburger.
And cut some tomatoes.

The recipe makes about 4 pizzas. I froze the extra one.
Step 1. Flatten the dough on a piece of parchment paper.
Step 2. Spread with a little olive oil and then put some roasted garlic on the dough.
Step 3. Put on a few onions.
Step 4. Sprinkle on the hamburger.
Step 5. Tomatoes.
Step 6…..bake it.
(No cheeze for Dan.)
Step 7….put on Pizza Cheese. I use a mix from Kraft, but I also have separate cheeses. I think both work fine.
Step 8. Slide it onto the Pizza Stone in a 500* oven and keep an eye on it. Only takes a few minutes.

We like our pizza thin and crispy.

I use my handy pizza cutter to cut it. Each of us ate about one pizza.

They
were
GREAT!!!

It think the secret was the roasted garlic. It really made it taste rich and sweet.
Try it!!!!

This is one of the many gifts my husband has given me.
A Room With A View.

And every day, that view changes. From spring to summer to fall to winter, the view changes.

And today, the fresh snow combined with the sunshine, clear sky and cold temperatures has yielded a vew so spectacular that it has left me speechless.

Butternut Squash Soup tonight!

New Roast Chicken recipe

I love everything from Cooks Illustrated and America’s Test Kitchen. I have a membership to their website and I TIVO their shows on PBS. This one needed more cooking time, but it was very moist.

And my first attempt at biscuits……

Img_0636

I grew up in a family where the biscuits either came from Kentucky Fried Chicken, or a cardboard tube.
I did NOT get the biscuit gene and my son, TheNavySeal, LOVES biscuits.
I got some White Lily Flour on our way home from Florida and this was my first try.
Pretty Dry.

I’ll keep trying. (On a side note, my cute hubby gets a GOLD STAR for driving me to a grocery store during a gas and lunch break on our way home to SEE if they had this flour…..! Thanks, hunny)

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies are for dessert Matt’s lunches.

Also made a loaf of homemade bread for his lunch sammiches.

The carcass is now bubbling on the stove with some onions and peppercorns. I always make chicken stock after roasting a chicken. Then, I’ll use the broth for soup this week.

My frustration with what I cannot find has grown almost too big for me to deal with.
I just want to FIND someone to make this or do that or tell me this or sell me that.
And the things I want are NOT THAT OUT OF THE ORDINARY!!!

I’d like to find an event or party planner.
I’d like to find someone who can build me a deck. And will understand what I want. And be willing to try something new. And be excited about it.
I’d like to go into a store and have them be interested in having a customer.
I’d like to call my cell phone company and have a human answer the phone.
I’d like to have my Sunday newspaper thrown onto my porch instead of in the gutter at the end of the driveway.
I’d like to buy the garbage sacks, dog food and tea I like at my local grocery store.
I’d like Charmin to make the single ply TP again.
I’d like flowers to SMELL like flowers.

And while I’m not yet done feeling like being queen of all things, here’s a few more!

I’d like EVERYONE to drive SIXTY MILES PER HOUR on Highway 133.
If EVERYONE drove the speed limit, it wouldn’t be such a crappy commute to and from Omaha.
But if you are unable to drive SIXTY and instead prefer to lollagag along at FIFTY, just pull over and let the long line of speed limit drivers behind you go in front of you.

I’d like people to realize that there is a left and right side to a grocery aisle. Not a middle lane. Put your cart on one side or the other.

Ahhhh. Now I feel better. Is there a website out there where you can just complain and then someone will send you an e-mail saying you are right and we are sorry???
That would be SWEET!!!!
