Homecoming game tonight in Blair.
Alot of my memories are accompanied by smells. My smeller must be overactive!
And homecoming smells like caramel apples.
Kuemper High School, Carroll, Iowa, 1978-ish.
I was a cheerleader and Homecoming was the best week of the year!
We made FULL-SIZE floats! We worked on them each evening from Monday to Thursday. ALOT of class bonding happened that week. And it was good.
Freshman year, our class WON! The theme was "Raisin Up a Victory" and I made the Raisin Box lettering. The whole class walked behind the float dressed in garbage sacks. We were the original raisins!!!
Big Pep Assembly at School, where the king and queen were picked.
After the afternoon parade, we all got caramel apples from Pokey’s, the local hamburger joint. (The food there reminds me a little bit of a Runza Small Hamburger….)
Game that night and I would cheer my BRAINS out, willing those friends of mine to make a touchdown, and THEN the dance!
I remember wearing the latest outfit….wool plaid skirt, a blazer, and blouse with a BOW.
Fun, fun memories.

My son does not want to go to the Homecoming Dance.
I’m so sad for him.

Reading the Sunday Paper, outside, with my coffee and Baileys, in the sun.

The TECHIES sit up in the rafters during school plays.
Matt is the Lighting Technician for the fall play, "You Can’t Take it  With You".

Great Set. Great Cast. Great experience for Matt.

Dan and I missed the first half because we were attending a meeting of people who are working on getting out the yes vote for an upcoming school bond issue. Dan is the chairman of this committee, and he’s a pro at running meetings. Many committees are needed and many more volunteers will be working to convince the Blair voters that we not only need to update the school’s music and drama wing, we need to add classrooms to gradeschools, add a gym to the high school and build another neighborhood school in our town. The population is growing more than little by little every year.
Blair has a pro-active schoolboard who sees the need for this in a few years.
Election day will be exciting.

Washed and folded many of Megan’s things today and I had to laugh when I went to scrape the lint from the lint screen in my dryer, it was pink.
I haven’t had pink lint for some time.
It was nice.

…with shopping.
Shopping is about the ONLY reason I leave my home. And I’m just about DONE with THAT reason.
I had to go to Omaha today for a meeting at the 72nd & Dodge Borders Bookstore. It was for the publicity committee for Omaha Area Youth Orchestra….but I’m off my soapbox. Gotta get back on.

I’m SICK of snooty, snide, power-hungry, CLERKS.
Those who comment on my purchases.
"Wow. You buy alot of Oreos."
Those who ignore me.
"Do you have more of these in the back? Hello?"
Those who hold my credit card HOSTAGE as I sign it.
Those who ask for ID with such imPORtance.
(This happened recently at my bank and I was crushed.)
Those who igNORE me.
Those who are more imPORTant than me in their own minds.
(This happened at Pottery Barn and I will think again about going in there again.)

I’m older than I used to be.
I don’t dress up to the nines when I go shop. I dress comfortable.
But I still have a wallet and a brain and I don’t require much to make me happy in a store.
I’m pretty happy to be left alone to wander.
But DON’T act like you are so mighty and powerful because YOU are holding MY credit card while I sign my John Hancock on the tiny piece of paper and then you pretend to compare signatures.

I should probably just start using cash for purchases.
I should probably just not go in stores anymore.

But I love looking and touching and getting ideas and inspiration. I love the people-watching and making up stories in my head about who I see. I love finding just the right thing.

If only I didn’t have to bother with CLERKS.
Self-check-outs cannot come soon enough!
But, until then, I’m gonna get re-acquainted with my old friend, Amazon.com.

Tuesday evening is what I’ve been looking forward to since Sunday afternoon.
I’m a semi-retired–stay-at-home-mom.
I’m not so used to being out and about.
I attended a shower party on Sunday.
And Monday, a "ladies-who-lunch" event at the Joslyn….which didn’t go so well….followed by a meeting and then a business dinner.
And today, I had another meeting early in Omaha and then a lunch meeting in Blair to learn about and talk about carpet choices for Crowell Home.
And then drive to Arlington to work on the Rummage Sale.

I’m not used to all this rig-a-ma-roll.
I like better taking care of OTHERS who have alot going on.

But, I better get my big girl pants on…
cause my life
is gonna get
ALOT busier
soon!
America Creates and Brite Ideas and The Holidaze and stuff and junk.
